Biography

Patrick Nkonge is an accountant with more than 12 years of experience directing and supporting Directors and Managers in the multifaceted financial operations whilst maintaining quality relationships with external auditors, banks, government agencies and other stakeholders. At Macha Research Trust (MRT), he is responsible for overseeing internal financial controls established by Macha Research Trust Ltd. He places considerable importance on maintaining a strong control environment and also to develop and nurture a culture of compliance by taking lead and facilitating external audits and enhancing compliance checks emanating from both external partner contractual agreements and/or statutory obligation. He had gained valuable experience as a Supply Chain Executive as well as an Accountant with British American Tobacco (Z) plc.

Professional Experience

2015 – Present - Macha Research Trust, Choma, Zambia

Finance Manager

The role of Finance Manager at MRT is to support Directors and Project Investigators in complying with donor financial requirements especially with the management of obligated funds. He is also responsible for overseeing internal financial controls established by Macha Research Trust Ltd and places considerable importance on maintaining a strong control environment. The Finance Manager takes lead in financial analysis, reporting and reviewing operational performance. It is his responsibility to oversee the preparation of financial statements and ensure they are prepared in accordance with International Financial Reporting Standards and are based upon appropriate accounting policies consistently applied and supported by reasonable and prudent judgments and estimates.

Supply Chain Executive

As Supply Chain Executive, Mr Nkonge was responsible for identification and sourcing of critical materials and services required to support company strategies in key performance areas, particularly during new product development. He developed supply options and contingency plans which supported the company plans and the organisation’s need for a diverse and globally competitive supply base using procurement tools such as the Fully Integrated Sourcing Plan (FISP. In addition, he communicated and enforced procurement policy and guidelines for delivering commercial and cost-effective procuring process for the business and provided support for the implementation of the British American Tobacco Southern Africa procurement shared services.

Accountant - Payables

In the role of Accountant – Payable, Mr Nkonge’s responsibilities were: Ensured all invoices due for payments were fully accounted for as per service level agreement; Accrued and provided for unprocessed invoices/expenses at the end of each month ensuring expenses and liabilities were recorded in the correct accounting period; Reconciled all supplier accounts to supplier statements at the end of each month and timely resolved reconciling items; Maintained an updated and accurate fixed asset register by managing additions, disposals, depreciation and impairments; Ensured compliance with ZRA, NAPSA, and other statutory obligations and returns at all times.
