Chris Book has served in this capacity since 2010. Prior to coming to Macha Research Trust, Chris was the Executive Director of a non-profit in the USA for twenty three years. He and his wife, Marlys, also served as missionaries in Zambia for three years from 1982-1985. Born to missionary parents in Zimbabwe, Chris is grateful for the opportunity to live and work in this capacity and culture. His responsibilities at MRT include giving supervisory oversight to Maintenance, Hospitality, IT, Accounts and Human Resources.

Dr. Philip Thuma

Sr Scientific Advisor

Dr. Thuma is the founding director of the Macha Research Trust / Malaria Institute at Macha and now serves as Senior Scientific Advisor at MRT and is a Senior Scientist at the Johns Hopkins Bloomberg School of Public Health. He grew up in Zambia, completing his high school in Lusaka, then did his Bachelor’s degree in Chemistry at Messiah College and his medical school at Temple University in the USA. He is a pediatrician trained at Johns Hopkins Hospital and has worked at Macha Mission Hospital since 1976. He began research in malaria in 1988 and expanded to include TB and HIV research in the early 2000s.

Human Resource

Fortune Ndambo is the Human Resource Coordinator for Macha Research Trust and handles/oversees a variety of human resource management function. He acts as a linkage between employer and employee relationship including guidance on hiring needs, recruiting candidates, screening applicants, conducting interviews and participating in the selection process. His training in social work and public administration has undoubtedly offered him a great acumen in dealing with administration and management related matters.

Hospitality Mananger

Majorie Hamahuwa is the Hospitality Manager at MRT , she has served since August 2008. she is Holds a Diploma in Office Management from Cambridge International College and currently pursuing a BA in Hospitality Management at LIUTEBM University ( Livingstone International University Of  Tourism Excellence and Business Management).

Her roles at MRT includes providing outstanding customer service , planning , organizing accommodation, catering and other hospitality services at MRT to make sure the guests feel at home.

Nseba Study Project Coordinator

Nkumbula Moyo is the Study Coordinator for an HIV diagnostic study known as ‘Novel Screening of HIV Exposed Babies (NSEBA)’at Macha Research Trust .He holds an MSc in Epidemiology and BA degree from the University of Zambia. He has vast experience spanning over 15 years both in the public and non-governmental sectors which makes him well vested in the areas of data capture, analysis and study team leadership. His research interests include: HIV and TB diagnostics, health service delivery approaches and interventions, maternal and child health.

OVC Project Coordinator

Joseph Mwaba is the Project Coordinator for the OVC Study called “A community based evaluation of interventions for orphans and vulnerable children affected by HIV/AIDS”.

He has a has a Bachelors of Art in Development Studies and Economics from the University of Zambia and a Certificate in Planning, Monitoring and Evaluation. During his time a UNZA he also training in working with Statistical Software packages such as SPSS, Stata, Epi-data and E-View for data analysis. He is a qualified social scientist with strong research and Statistical background.
