COVID-19 DIAGNOSTIC ACTIVITIES AT MRT
COVID-19 diagnosis at MRT has drastically reduced as Zambia has seen considerable decreases in COVID-19 cases throughout the country. However, routine testing of staff, particularly those working on influenza/COVID-19 project or in hospital settings where there is an increased risk of infection has continued.

Genomic surveillance through sequencing of SARS-CoV-2 is ongoing at MRT. There is need to expand the genomic sequencing capacity to include other pathogens and to bring high throughput platforms that would allow the institution to cope with high volumes of samples as witnessed during the peak of the pandemic.
